Café Asia
restaurant/sushi/bar • 10,000 SF • Washington, DC Inspired by Japanimation and artist Dan Flavin, Café Asia was designed with a clean, contemporary style to create a bold space for people watching, dining enjoyment and socializing at the bar. The unusual open ‘forum’ design was utilized to accommodate lounging at the bar area as well as intimate or group gatherings on the upper level mezzanine with a view to the scene below. Patrons step down into the main bar and seating area centered around a translucent glowing boxed stair that conceals the kitchen. Colored fluorescent fixtures march down the ceiling and walls at various lengths to highlight the minimal decor. Custom designed furnishings utilize new materials for comfort and durability, and complement the glowing surfaces throughout the space.
